On May 20th 2023, an accident left eight-year-old Gideon with severe burns covering 84% of his body. He and his parents, Aaron and Mirja, spent nine months at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, before moving to Shriners Children’s Hospital in California for specialized care. This move also brought them to the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House, where Mirja shared how the welcoming environment became a home away from home. The cozy spaces, beautiful grounds, and supportive community of staff and families lifted their spirits. During their stay, Gideon enjoyed gaming on his iPad, sleeping in a queen-sized bed, and the taco bar hosted by Meals From the Heart volunteers. After months of healing and support, Gideon and his mom are heading home to reunite with their family.
